Aftercare Instructions

Following your massage treatment you will be feeling relaxed and refreshed, but you may also experience other short term symptoms:

  • Cold like symptoms i.e. Stuffy, blocked or runny nose
  • Heightened emotions, high or low
  • Sounder sleep or difficulty sleeping
  • Temporary worsening of symptoms
  • Increased thirst
  • Frequest visits to the toilet

As everyone is different and may react differently to a massage treatment these symptoms are quite normal and are a good sign that the treatment is working. This is known as a healing reaction.

You should do the following:

  • Drink lots of water! You should always keep yourself well hydrated, but it is especially important after a massage. Massage causes toxins and metabolic debris to be released from the body's soft tissues. Drinking plenty of water for several hours after your massage will help flush these wastes out of your body which will maximize the loosening of your muscles and joints and minimize any day-after soreness.
  • Limit caffeine, alcohol, and sugar consumption for 24 hours after your massage while your body continues to detoxify.
  • Eat light meals for the rest of the day, this will allow your body to concentrate on your natural healing. The treatment has made your body work hard to elimate the toxins, digesting a large amount of food may exhaust your body.
  • Stretch!  It is a good idea to stretch while your muscles are still warmed up and relaxed from the massage. Stretching works by "re-educating" your muscles to remember their new length and position.
  • Chill Out!  If possible, spend the rest of the day relaxing and taking it easy so you can enjoy the benefits of the massage.
